New Warning Issued for Provigil (modafinil)

10/25/2007 - The US Food and Drug Administration has issued a new warning concerning the stimulant drug Provigil (modafinil).
Cephalon, Privigil's manufacturer, along with the authorities is revising prescribing information to include information about the potential risk of serious rash (Stevens-Johnson Syndrome), angioedema, as well as, psychiatric disturbances, which may include anxiety, hallucinations, and suicidal tendencies.
The agency also noted that the incidence of these adverse effects is rare, however due to their serious nature, it is appropriate to include them in the drug's prescribing information
